Program Description

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Citadel UCESCO Medical Camp

Camp at Kiboro, Mathare Slum

UCESCO will provide the camp facilities and all medical requirements.
Students will be designated jobs, and this will rotate. The exact number designated at each station will
be determined when facilities are finalized.

A tent will be made at The Kiboro School site in Mathare Slum, Nairobi, Kenya. The tent will have separate private sections that will act as clinical rooms.
Equipment will be rented and/or loaned.
Two classrooms within the school will be used for educational purposes.

An application is being made to be a COVID-19 vaccination site. This will depend upon the number of vaccines available and the amount designated for the slums. This is organized by WHO.

The students will rotate through the following stations:

1. Doctors – Total of 3.
a. Dr. Sarah A. Imam
b. Local Doctor
c. Local Doctor
2. Ultrasound/ Sonography
3. ECG
4. Lab technology – instant testing. Rapid blood tests, Diabetes HbAIc, basic metabolic panel,
pregnancy test, ANA etc.
5. Pharmacy / Medicine dispensary. Medication is provided by the Government of Kenya
6. COVID-19 Vaccine clinic
7. Nutrition – education on disease related diet, incorporating local foods E.g. Diabetes education.
8. Educating local people on important health issues – sexual health, sanitation and disease
prevention,
9. Gynecology (education and basic measurements) for pregnant ladies
10. Pediatric – basic measurements, growth chart assessment and assistance with growth and
development information
11. Reception – Patient sign-up
12. Assessment – Vital signs and Presenting Complaint

The students will be able to assist in all of the above areas. All work completed by the students will be
under the AAMC guidelines for students. Students will not be involved with any procedures.
They will assist with routine jobs, such as taking vitals, taking weight, height, blood pressure, heart rate
and temperature measurements. They can provide education sessions regarding health, nutrition and
sanitation. They are also able to treat minor injuries and wounds, provided all care is external and
superficial. Community health services and education will be important and a great opportunity for the
people of Mathare to learn about certain common health issues.

Weekend at the Masai Mara Safari
- A stay in the Ashnil Mara Tented Camp
- Visit to the Masai Mara National Reserve
- Masai Village cultural visit
