Estimated Costs: Approximately $3,700 (precise amount depends on exchange rate and will be determined later), including registration and tuition at The Citadel, Chinese school tuition, housing, breakfast and dinner in Nice, excursions, and insurance. This does NOT include airfare to France, dinners, passports, personal expenses, books, and independent travel.

A $500 deposit is due by February 8th. Students must give a copy of the deposit slip to the program director. The entire amount is due no later than the end of March. Students dropping out of the program after April 26th will be reimbursed 50% of the total cost.

Program Description

Academic Program
Classroom instruction in Mandarin Chinese Monday through Friday from 9am to 12pm. Afternoons, evenings and weekends will be devoted to cultural excursions. A weekly journal, written in Chinese, reflecting insights into cultural/cross-cultural experiences, will be turned in to Program Director by all students.

Prerequisites
Students from any college/university meeting the following qualifications are cordially invited to apply:

-- Completion of Chinese 102 (Elementary Chinese II) or equivalent with C or better
-- GPA of at least 2.0 (on a scale of 4)
-- Recommendation of language instructor(s)
-- Interview with Program Director (by telephone or Skype if need be)

Credit
Students who have completed Chinese 102 will receive 6 hours credit for Chinese 201 and 202 (Intermediate Chinese I & II). Students having already successfully taken Chinese 202, Chinese 301 (Advanced Chinese I) or 302 (Advanced Chinese II) will obtain 6 hours credit for two 300-level Chinese courses (e.g., Chinese 303, Chinese Civilization).

Dates
Students need to arrive in Taipei, Taiwan the weekend before the first day of the class (6/1/2015). Students are responsible for their own flight arrangements. Candidates may reserve their plane tickets anytime but must pay for their tickets only after the necessary forms have been completed and returned to them.

There are two international airports near Taipei, Taiwan: Taoyuan (TPE) and Songshan (TSA) International Airports. Airlines such as China Airlines, Eva Airlines, and United Airlines have direct flights from Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), and New York (JFK) to Taoyuan (TPE) International Airport.
