Program Description

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Young Britons' Foundation is offering the unique opportunity for Citadel cadets to spend three months in London while gaining first-hand experience of the British political system and acquiring new skills and knowledge that will be invaluable to their future careers.

The Young Britons' Foundation can offer each cadet a two-month placement with a Member of Parliament who will preferably have a background or interest in foreign and/or defense policy. The cadets will then spend a four week placement with one of Britain's leading think thanks - the Adam Smith Institute, the Henry Jackson Society, the TaxPayers' Alliance and Big Brother Watch.

Through this scheme the cadets will develop valuable personal, leadership, and work-related skills, understand better the structure of the British parliamentary system, learn in depth about the big issue of the day in the UK and abroad, and develop practical skills from working with some of the best campaigning groups the UK has to offer.

Students will be provided with work permits/visas that allow them to work while in the UK, round-trip airfare to and from Heathrow Airport; Zones 1 & 2 Oyster card (enabling unlimited travel on buses, trains and tubes within Zones 1 & 2), staple foods on arrival, a welcome dinner hosted by our affiliates at the East India Club, a weekly Monday and/or Wednesday night dinner addressed by a relevant politician, academic, journalist and/or thought leader, the ten-week program led by academics based at the University of Oxford and the University of Buckingham, and numerous guided visits to historical sites and museums in and around London.

COURSE INFORMATION

The student will receive a total of 12 hours of credit for this experience. There will be a three-hour course led by academics based at the University of Oxford and the University of Buckingham. This will count as PSCI 402: Topics in Political Philosophy. There will also be a six-hour internship credit. Last will be an online course you will take, LDRS 433: Leadership Abroad. Students are highly discouraged from taking any additional coursework as the actual internship is an eight hour/five day obligation.
