Program Description

HOST UNIVERSITY

On the Global Scholars Program in Greece, students will take classes at the American College of Greece, located in Athens, and originally founded in 1875 Smyrna, Deree – The American College of Greece is the oldest American-accredited college in Europe and the largest private college in Greece. ACG is an independent, not for profit, nonsectarian, co-educational academic institution.

ACG is the largest American college or university in Europe and a truly international learning learning community. All classes at ACG are taught in English. Global Scholars take classes with degree-seeking students, in a truly immersive environment with no language barrier. ACG enrolls approximately 2,800 graduate and undergraduate students with over 450 international students from more than 67 countries.


COURSE OPTIONS

Students participating in the Global Scholars Program will receive transfer credit from their host university. Therefore, their GPA will not be affected by courses taken during students' semesters abroad on this program. As long as students receive a C or better in their classes abroad, transfer credit will be applied to the students' transcript. The Citadel Office of Study Abroad will take care of pre-approving all course offerings from ACG for the Global Scholars Program. A complete list of available courses will be attached to this application page once all courses have been approved by Citadel faculty members.


HOW TO APPLY

Students interested in the Global Scholars Program in Athens for the fall 2019 semester should submit this application no later than March 15 if they wish to secure a spot. Students must meet the 2.5 GPA requirement and be in good standing in regards to discipline and conduct here at The Citadel.

Important Steps to Study Abroad:
-Speak with your academic advisor about what classes are needed to stay on track
-Apply for a passport if you do not already have one (visit travel.state.gov to apply for your passport)
-Alert chain of command that you wish to study abroad
-Contracted students should also alert ROTC departments of plans to study abroad
