Program Description

COURSE OFFERINGS

Students will choose 6 hours (2 courses) out of the following 5 courses:

Undergraduate:
EXSC 411 ST: Pre-Health Development
PHED 406 Directed Field Experience
BIOL 412 ST: Health Professional Training

Graduate:
HESS 511 Pre-Health Development
HESS 542 Health Professional Training


The students will be gaining academic, pre-professional and cultural experience. The students will gain 100 hours of experiential learning. This program is designed for students who want to study further in the health professions. As such, the more hours they can accumulate, the better it is for them. The program will award students with 6 credit hours as well as the hospital experience hours that are needed for their application to further studies.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

The students will spend 5 hours a day shadowing at The Hospital of Lithuanian Health Sciences University. This is the largest healthcare institute in Lithuania, with almost 1400 physicians employed. The students will rotate through different medical specialties; there are 38 different clinical departments. The experience for foreign students is AAMC approved (Association of American Colleges) and according to their guidelines. The students will volunteer for a further 25 hours in total. There are different areas of volunteering which students can sign up for. This will include assisting at local schools and helping at an English language camp.


-Students will have the opportunity to engage in the following activities:
*Visits to Lithuanian Hospitals
*Serve as teaching volunteers at a camp for children
*Assist in a local middle school

Dr. Sarah A. Imam has worked in healthcare in Europe and the practice of healthcare is vastly different in Europe, anywhere, than it is in USA. She won an award to see how to set up a study abroad program and traveled to Madrid, Spain, to see what kind of experiences are valuable to US students, intending to pursue a career in the health professions.
