HOST UNIVERSITY The Global Scholars Program in Bangkok, Thailand is hosted by Mahidol University International College. Mahidol University is recognized as a large higher education institution comprising of academicians and professionals in every field, both in arts and sciences. Mahidol has continued to progress in all aspects to stay relevant and conform to the rapidly changing world and society. The significant role of the university is to produce quality graduates, who are knowledgeable in their chosen fields and mindful of morality, to serve as human capital for the country’s current development. Moreover, the university has vouched for academic development, research support for innovations, improvements of university’s physical systems and environment as an eco-university as well as internationalization. Within its impressive student body, Mahidol University is home to over 1,400 international students and over 900 international courses. Inbound exchange students engage in studies at MUIC for a fixed period of time, from one trimester up to one academic year, as part of the study abroad programs at their home universities. They have a choice of approximately 400 courses each trimester in the Arts, Sciences and Management. Moreover, exchange students are encouraged to take the Thai Language and Culture course to broaden their understanding of Thailand and its people. COURSE OPTIONS Students participating in the Global Scholars Program will receive transfer credit from their host university. Therefore, their GPA will not be affected by courses taken during students' semesters abroad on this program. As long as students receive a C or better in their classes abroad, transfer credit will be applied to the students' transcript. The Citadel Office of Study Abroad will take care of pre-approving all course offerings from Mahidol University for the Global Scholars Program. A complete list off available courses will be attached to this application page once all courses have been approved by Citadel faculty members. HOW TO APPLY Students interested in the Global Scholars Program in Bangkok for the Spring semester should submit this application no later than October 15 if they wish to secure a spot. Students must meet the 2.5 GPA requirement and be in good standing in regards to discipline and conduct here at The Citadel. While the deadline is not until October 15, it is possible that the program can fill up prior to this deadline. Important Steps to Study Abroad: -Speak with academic advisor about what classes are needed to stay on track -Check online course schedule at Mahidol University -Apply for a passport if you do not already have one (visit travel.state.gov to apply for your passport) -Alert chain of command that you wish to study abroad -Contracted students should also alert ROTC departments of plans to study abroad Any questions or concerns about the process can be directed to the Office of Study Abroad via email at studyabroad@citadel.edu.
